UFC 180: Mark Hunt Has Some Weight To Cut Before Fight

Currently, Mark Hunt weighs over 300 pounds, meaning he will have three-plus weeks to cut almost 40 pounds and make weight for UFC 180.

Hunt was tabbed as the replacement for Cain Velasquez for the November 15 show, as he will meet Fabricio Werdum for the interim title. During an interview with MMAFighting.com after news of the change broke, “The Super Samoan” stayed he didn’t think twice about taking on the challenge on short notice.

“Don’t think I (hesitated),” he said. “Only challenge is making weight.”

Hunt stated he is 137kg, which is 302 pounds. He will have to weigh in on November 14 at 265 pounds, or risk the fight not being for the title. Earlier this year, Hunt finished Roy Nelson to secure his standing in the heavyweight division.

It’s been an incredible journey for the 40-year-old Hunt (10-8-1), who was just 5-7 when he knocked out Chris Tuchscherer in 2011. Since that victory, he’s gone 5-1-1, with the only loss coming to former UFC champion Junior dos Santos via third round knockout.
